Its Monday, my favorite day of the week and its my birthday! I love birthdays, I love that I get to grow old. This, right now, is the oldest I have ever been! How cool is that?
So in honor of my birthday I am going to tell you a secret. I am going to tell you the secret to happiness.
The secret to being happy isn’t unicorns and raining glitter. It’s actually not a secret at all. Being happy is a choice that we get to make every single day. Not every day is all good. Some days are sad and bad, there is injustice in the world and there are things that are wrong that we need to fight against. But before we get there, we need to ground ourselves in what is true and good and beautiful. The secret to seeing something good and true and beautiful each day, the secret to having one thing to celebrate each day is actually not a secret at all.
Here it is. Here is the secret that is not a secret. Here is my one piece of old lady wisdom. You see what it is that you look at. What you put your eyes on is what you see, what you see determines what information goes to our brain, which in turn impacts and influences how we live our life. We get that choice. We get to decide where to put our eyes and what to focus on. We don't need a whole day of good, we need one moment. Each day we can make the choice to find one good and true and beautiful thing. That choice becomes a habit and that habit becomes who it is that we are. Choose joy today.
