“And you belong right here, where you’re home,
And where I hold you close.
Of all the wonders I’ve ever known,
You’re the one I love the most”
Dear Middle School Students,
Yesterday Governor Wolf and the state of Pennsylvania made a difficult decision. With input from doctors and health experts they decided to close school buildings for the remainder of this academic year. In making this decision they affirmed something that your school counselors and teachers and school administrators have been telling you for years. Academics are important but YOU are the most important. This decision means that we will be able to social distance more effectively and each family will be able to take the steps that they need to in order to remain as safe and healthy as possible. We are, of course, sad and disappointed to not be able to be with you these last few months of the school year but we know that even though we are not physically together we are still a Wallenpaupack family, we are still a community.
I want to take some time today to tell you some things that are real and true. You are amazing. You are a world changer. We are so very proud of you. Middle school is an interesting time. It is a time between the carefree elementary days and the pressures of high school. It is a time of learning and growth and it is a time of discovery. Middle school is a time where you discover who you are and where you belong. Normally during middle school you stretch and grow and discover for yourself where you belong but with all that is going on in our world right now I wanted to cheat a little and tell you one place that you will always belong. You belong with us, you belong at Wallenpaupack. Your teachers, your school counselors, ALL of us at the middle school, want you to know that you belong with us. Even when we are not physically together, we are still here for you. Our community is strong and resilient, and we will get through this together. If you need something reach out to us. Because that is the other truth, I want to let you in on, we belong to each other, and we need each other. There is an Irish proverb that states “It is in the shelter of each other that the people live”. There are some times that you will need other people and there are times that other people will need you. In this time, we all need each other.
Wash your hands, stay safe and be kind. Be kind to others and be kind to yourself.
Mrs. D
