Cara J Dougherty
I have been working with children since my first job in middle school, babysitting neighborhood children. I began my professional career in 2004 working as a school based therapist for a mental health agency and then made the change to working for the public school system as a crisis counselor in 2006. Another career transition occurred for me in 2015, when I took on the role of comprehensive school counselor. In this role I offered services in three core areas of academic, career and social/emotional domains.
After the chaos of 2020 I realized that I had more to offer and our community needed something different. I again had a professional transition to focus my attention on Diversity Equity and Inclusion, Social Emotional Learning, and Student Assistance Programs.
I have a master's degree in Community Counseling from the University of Scranton, another master's degree in Educational Development and Strategies from Wilkes University and a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision. My research has focused on motivation and workplace decision making, with the belief that relationships are a driving force for children and adults.
We are stronger together.
